Guangdong Yanchang Shell Petroleum Company - Vehicle Traffic Monitoring Study

Company overview
Yanchang Shell (Guangdong) Petroleum Co., Ltd. is a Sino-foreign joint venture established through equal investment by Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) Co., Ltd., Shell (China) Co., Ltd., and Shell China Holding Private Limited Company. As a key strategic presence of Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group in the South China region, the company focuses on the investment, construction, operation, and management of its own gas station network throughout Guangdong Province, committed to delivering high-quality fuels and premium fueling services to consumers. It actively aligns its brand development and customer experience with international standards, aiming to build a first-class gas station service brand
Research background
With the continuous growth of vehicle ownership and increasingly intense market competition, accurately understanding the operational status of its own gas stations—particularly the traffic volume structure and trends—has become a critical basis for formulating market strategies and optimizing resource allocation. To more efficiently capture frontline station operation data, Yanchang Shell (Guangdong) Petroleum Co., Ltd. has decided to conduct standardized, data-driven vehicle traffic monitoring through a third-party research institution, providing objective data support for subsequent competitive analysis, station repositioning, and investment planning
Research scope
Since 2016, CEIDEA Research has been entrusted by Yanchang Shell (Guangdong) Petroleum Co., Ltd. to carry out targeted vehicle traffic monitoring at its own-operated gas stations across Guangdong Province. This study primarily relies on on-site, fixed-point observations, categorizing traffic by five vehicle types: small and medium-sized diesel vehicles, passenger cars (gasoline), large diesel vehicles, long-distance passenger buses, and motorcycles. The research team conducted continuous 8-hour observations at each site across different time periods—including early morning, midday, evening, early hours, and peak times—systematically monitoring the daily traffic volume structure and fluctuations at each station, ensuring comprehensive temporal coverage and representative vehicle type coverage
Expected outcomes
Through this study, Yanchang Shell (Guangdong) Petroleum Co., Ltd. will obtain foundational vehicle traffic data covering its major self-operated gas station sites across the province, clearly identifying customer traffic patterns under different time periods and vehicle type compositions. The research findings will provide quantitative support for the company's competitive benchmarking, station resource allocation, and asset investment efficiency evaluations, enabling data-driven operational optimization and strategic market execution, and further enhancing overall business efficiency and profitability
