Research on Monitoring of Sales Violations in Terminal Retail Stores

Company overview

Suning was founded in December 1990, with its headquarters in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. It is one of China's leading retail enterprises. Suning's business operations cover multiple categories including home appliances, consumer electronics, department stores, daily necessities, books, and virtual goods, operating over 1,600 physical retail outlets and building an integrated omnichannel retail ecosystem through its 'Suning Easy Purchase' platform. Thanks to its guaranteed product quality, excellent service, and comfortable shopping experience, Suning ranks among the top B2C e-commerce platforms in China and continues to drive innovation and transformation in the Chinese retail industry.

Research background

As retail competition intensifies and service consciousness improves, the quality of service and compliance of terminal store sales personnel has become a critical component of corporate brand image and customer experience. Suning Cloud Commerce Group aims to gain a systematic understanding of potential issues and risks in sales processes through monitoring, particularly focusing on identifying and investigating misconduct such as backroom operations and unauthorized sales. This effort will help refine incentive and disciplinary mechanisms, ensure standardized and compliant service procedures, and promote legal and compliant sales practices, thereby enhancing overall operational efficiency.

Research scope

In October 2017, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Suning Cloud Commerce Group to conduct undercover visits to multiple Suning retail stores across the Shenzhen region. This field investigation covered several key stores and evaluated service performance throughout the pre-sale, in-sale, and post-sale stages, including overall store environment, customer reception, and the degree of service standard compliance. Additionally, the study specifically monitored potential violations during sales activities, such as 'fly-selling' (selling products outside official channels), unauthorized resale of goods, and improper issuance of invoices. The authenticity and compliance of sales behaviors were meticulously documented. All data were collected based on on-site observations and scenario reconstructions to ensure objectivity and practical applicability.

Expected outcomes

This research will systematically reveal differences in sales personnel performance and potential violation risks across Suning retail stores in the Shenzhen region. The resulting report will provide credible and actionable data to support the company's optimization of sales processes, standardization of store operations, and establishment of scientific incentive and disciplinary mechanisms. Through classification analysis of identified issues and behavioral risk alerts, the study will offer management precise improvement directions and recommendations for employee behavior control, further ensuring the effective implementation of Suning's service commitments and promoting steady improvements in store service quality.
