Company overview

Zhongshan Medi Appliance Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is a manufacturing enterprise specializing in the R&D, production, and sales of kitchen and household appliances, with product lines including range hoods, gas stoves, disinfection cabinets, electric water heaters, and other daily-use home appliances. Through consistent product quality, continuous technological innovation, and an established distribution network, the company has built a strong market reputation across the country and established its own trademark brand, 'Wangguan Tangshen'.

Research background

As brand competition intensifies in the market, the 'Wangguan Tangshen' trademark used by Medi Appliance shows visual similarities with a trademark used by another company, raising concerns about consumer confusion and potential threats to brand distinctiveness and trademark rights. To ensure the legal validity of the 'Wangguan Tangshen' trademark and to maintain clear brand communication, the company requires professional research to assess consumers' recognition and perception of the two similar trademarks. This data will serve as a critical foundation for future trademark registration, brand protection actions, and market positioning.

Research scope

In November 2013, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Zhongshan Medi Appliance Manufacturing Co., Ltd. to conduct a special investigation on 'consumers' recognition levels of similar trademarks. The study targeted ordinary citizens in Guangzhou and Zhongshan City, employing random sampling questionnaires and on-site interviews to present two visually similar trademark logos. The research evaluated respondents' recognition rates, confusion levels, and misidentification of brand associations under conditions of no prior hints, single identification, and comparative identification. Additionally, the study documented participants' subjective judgments and associations regarding trademark design styles and brand ownership, analyzing potential market confusion risks and brand influence segmentation.

Expected outcomes

This research will provide a comprehensive picture of the public's actual recognition and confusion levels regarding 'Wangguan Tangshen' and similar trademarks in real consumption environments. It will deliver third-party consumer cognition data with legal reference value for the trademark registration process, effectively supporting claims of trademark distinctiveness. Furthermore, the research findings will assist the company in making more scientifically informed decisions regarding future brand design, marketing strategies, and legal actions, enhancing the distinctiveness and long-term brand security of the trademark.
