Flavor Testing for New Meal Pack Products

Company overview

Guangdong Xinmeng Food Co., Ltd. was established in 2011 and is located in the Luhu Liyushan Industrial Zone, Zengbu Village, Chashan Town, Dongguan. The company is a comprehensive food enterprise engaged in food R&D, production, and sales, with product lines including cookies, jellies, egg rolls, cakes, and honey water—covering both snack foods and baked goods. The company operates multiple automated production lines for cookies, cakes, and egg rolls, and maintains production bases in Dongguan, Handan, Hebei, and Xinfeng, Shaoguan. It places strong emphasis on food quality, hygiene management, and standardized production, having accumulated extensive experience in the production and sales of snack foods and baked goods.

Research background

As the consumption scenarios for ready-to-eat baked snacks continue to diversify, consumers are increasingly demanding more refined preferences regarding taste, sweetness, filling, and product size. Guangdong Xinmeng Food Co., Ltd. intends to conduct consumer flavor validation for new products—oat-milk and milk-based meal packs—focusing specifically on evaluating the consumer acceptance of different sweetness levels, distinct flavor profiles, and various package weights. This study not only aims to capture consumers' direct assessments of whether the products are 'delicious,' but also to identify the most market-appropriate sweetness levels, flavor directions, and product specifications. The findings will serve as a basis for subsequent product formulation optimization, go-to-market decisions, and expansion of consumption scenarios.

Research scope

In March 2026, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Guangdong Xinmeng Food Co., Ltd. to conduct a consumer flavor testing project for new meal pack products. The study targets consumers aged 6 to 60 years, with offline flavor testing and questionnaire surveys conducted in Beijing, Hangzhou, and Guangzhou. A total of 300 valid samples are planned, with 100 valid samples per city. Test points were established in high-traffic areas such as commercial districts, adjacent to street-front shops, and at entrances of residential communities. Respondents were on-site intercepted and guided to complete product tasting and face-to-face questionnaires. The primary testing content includes a comparison of sweetness acceptance between the standard-sweet (A) and reduced-sweet (C) oat-milk meal packs, a comparison of flavor preferences between the oat-milk (A) and milk-based (E) meal packs, and consumer preferences for different package weights (40g and 35g). Additionally, the study collects data on purchase intentions in various consumption scenarios—such as breakfast, afternoon tea, between work or study, hunger relief, outdoor activities, travel, and as a snack—along with consumer opinions on filling flavors and potential product improvements.

Expected outcomes

Through this research, Guangdong Xinmeng Food Co., Ltd. will gain a clear understanding of the authentic feedback from consumers across different cities and age groups regarding the sweetness, filling flavors, package weight, and purchase scenarios of the new meal pack products. The study will identify differences in consumer acceptance between standard and reduced-sweet versions, evaluate the relative flavor appeal between oat-milk and milk-based meal packs, and obtain direct consumer suggestions for new fillings and product improvements. The findings will provide data support for the company's future decisions on product formulation, package size optimization, flavor portfolio development, and go-to-market promotion strategies, helping the new product better align with actual consumer taste preferences and usage contexts.
