Before product optimization or official launch, companies need to conduct real consumer testing to determine whether the flavor profile aligns with target audience preferences and to identify differences in sensory experiences among various samples. To minimize bias from brand, packaging, and product information, this project employs on-site blind tasting, collecting consumer feedback in a relatively authentic drinking context. This enables the company to objectively assess product performance and identify potential areas for improvement.

Research scope

In May 2026, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Hangzhou Gote Biotechnology Co., Ltd. to conduct a beverage flavor test in Guangzhou, using a combination of offline in-person blind tasting and questionnaire surveys. The study recruited and screened young consumers who recently had beverage purchasing or drinking habits and who lacked professional experience in the food or beverage industry. During the testing process, participants tasted the beverage samples in a standardized sequence, without being informed of brand names, product features, or any other information that could influence their judgment. Between each sample, participants performed oral cleaning to reduce carryover effects from previous samples. Questionnaires collected feedback on overall preference, flavor characteristics, sensory experiences, drinking acceptability, and basic consumption habits. Quality control measures—including standardized staff training, sample condition review, test order management, questionnaire completeness verification, and on-site validation—ensured the testing process was standardized, consumer responses were authentic, data results were complete, and all findings were traceable and reliable.

Expected outcomes

The project is expected to help the company gain an objective understanding of target consumers' overall acceptance and specific sensory feedback toward different beverage samples, identify key flavor factors influencing product preference, and evaluate the relative performance of each sample in terms of flavor harmony, drinking experience, and market potential. The research findings will be delivered in the form of standardized operational documents, an optimized questionnaire, and structured data. These outputs will support the company in selecting product directions with higher consumer potential, refining formula details, improving drinking experiences, and planning future market testing. By reducing reliance on internal assumptions for product decisions, the project aims to enhance alignment between product development and actual consumer needs.
