Research background
In the context of advancing dual carbon goals and energy transition strategies, residential energy consumption data has become a foundational basis for formulating national-level energy policies and models. To understand the energy usage patterns and consumption behaviors of urban residents in China, APSEC commissioned CEIDEA Research in May 2022 to conduct a residential energy use survey in Fengyang, Anhui, and Fengning, Hebei. This study aims to collect first-hand data to support the development of a residential energy consumption model, providing accurate input for subsequent policy design and pathway simulation.
Research scope
This study employed a combination of home visits, online outreach, and on-site intercepts to conduct surveys among urban residents in Fengyang County, Anhui, and Fengning County, Hebei. The research collected data on residents' basic socio-demographic characteristics (such as income, population structure, and occupation), living conditions (such as building type, housing density, and geographic location), energy usage behaviors (such as lighting, appliance use, heating, and cooking methods), and related expenditure. Special attention was paid to key factors influencing heating consumption, with regional differences and seasonal variations taken into account to build a multidimensional profile of residential energy use.
Expected outcomes
Through this study, APSEC will obtain detailed data on the current energy usage patterns of urban residents in Fengyang and Fengning. These findings will serve as foundational data for constructing scientifically accurate and realistic residential energy consumption models. The research outcomes will provide data support for formulating differentiated regional energy management policies in China, optimizing residential energy structures, and improving energy efficiency management practices. Additionally, the study will strengthen APSEC's practical experience and case portfolio in international sustainable energy research.
