Research background
With the acceleration of urbanization and the advancement of the 'dual carbon' goals, household energy consumption has become a key element in achieving energy conservation and emission reduction objectives. To scientifically understand the energy consumption structure of Beijing residents and assess regional differences in energy usage, this study aims to examine, at the individual level, household behaviors and trends in energy use for heating, lighting, hot water, and kitchen activities. The findings will provide a basis for formulating targeted green and low-carbon policies.
Research scope
In January 2023, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Beijing Normal University to conduct a quantitative intercept questionnaire survey in designated residential communities across Beijing and Guangzhou. The study population consists of permanent residents in both cities. Through lawful and compliant methods, the research collects geographically-based energy usage data, covering frequency, time periods, expenditure, and energy-saving awareness across key energy types including electricity, gas, heating, and water resources. The study further analyzes the impact of regional differences, household structures, and lifestyle habits on energy consumption behaviors, aiming to construct a comprehensive energy consumption profile.
Expected outcomes
This study will provide Beijing Normal University with detailed data and structural analysis on household energy consumption, revealing behavioral differences and trends in energy use across different regions in Beijing and Guangzhou. The research findings will serve as scientific evidence for government policymakers to develop more accurate and efficient energy conservation and emission reduction policies, and to support sustainable urban development. Additionally, the report will assist universities and research institutions in deepening the integration of theory and practice in energy policy research, and provide data support and practical experience for the implementation of the 'dual carbon' strategy.
