Research background
With the accelerated urbanization process and ongoing population growth in Shenzhen, residents' travel demands are becoming increasingly diverse and complex. As a key center for technological innovation and economic development in China, the optimization of Shenzhen's transportation system has become particularly crucial. This study aims to understand Shenzhen residents' choice of transportation modes and transfer preferences in daily travel, as well as the factors influencing these decisions, providing scientific evidence to support the optimization of transportation policies and improvements in public transit services to meet evolving urban travel demands and promote sustainable urban development.
Research scope
In November 2024, CEIDEA Research, commissioned by The University of Hong Kong, conducted an in-depth analysis of the travel behaviors and transfer intentions of Shenzhen's permanent residents through offline questionnaire surveys. The study primarily focused on residents' choice of transportation modes, transfer preferences, and the influencing factors, exploring the impacts of convenience, time, and cost on travel decisions. It also collected data on public transit system satisfaction and recommendations for improvement, aiming to provide scientific evidence for the optimization and enhancement of Shenzhen's transportation policies and services.
Expected outcomes
Through this study, The University of Hong Kong aims to comprehensively understand Shenzhen residents' travel behaviors and transfer preferences, and to analyze the key factors influencing their travel choices. The research findings will provide Shenzhen Municipal Government with quantifiable data to support the development of more efficient and convenient public transportation policies. Additionally, the study results will serve as a theoretical foundation for Shenzhen's transportation planning, supporting the green and intelligent upgrading of the city's transportation system and contributing to the creation of a more sustainable urban transportation environment.
