Research background
The current Chinese senior high school education system faces numerous challenges in curriculum design, ability development, and international alignment—particularly in meeting the needs of personalized growth, holistic education, and diversified international admission pathways. These shortcomings have become a focal point of concern across the education sector. ZhuQiao School intends to address these gaps by introducing a senior high school program that integrates both state-mandated and non-state curricula, providing high-quality supplementary educational resources. Therefore, conducting in-depth market research during the early stages of the project to understand the genuine needs of its target audience is of critical importance.
Research scope
In October 2017, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Shanghai Pudong ZhuQiao School to conduct a mixed-method market study involving teachers, students, and parents from 13 key high schools in Shanghai. The study included 90 in-depth interviews and 1,300 quantitative questionnaires. Feedback was collected on respondents' satisfaction with the current educational curriculum, course content, teaching methods, academic support, and personal development services. The research specifically explored weaknesses and potential improvements in existing senior high school curricula, while also assessing the target group's receptiveness and expectations regarding integrated senior high school programs.
Expected outcomes
The findings of this research will provide Shanghai Pudong ZhuQiao School with credible and actionable data to support the design and optimization of its senior high school curriculum. The study will enable the school to develop a comprehensive curriculum that meets both state-mandated foundational requirements and non-state-based holistic development needs. Through scientific planning in course content, teaching methodologies, admission pathways, and resource allocation, the research aims to help ZhuQiao School establish an innovative senior high school education model with an international perspective, personalized instruction, and alignment with future societal talent demands.
