Research on High-End Whiteboard Industry

Company overview

PloyVision was founded in 1954 and is a global leader in ceramic steel materials and their products, operating under the Steelcase Group, a leading global brand in office environment and workspace solutions. Headquartered in Belgium, its primary product—ceramic steel—is widely used in writing panels (such as whiteboards and blackboards), interior wall surfaces, transportation infrastructure, and building facades—including subways, airports, automobile tunnels, public restrooms, kitchens, and hospitals—due to its exceptional wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and ease of cleaning. As a key supplier for the Steelcase Group, PloyVision’s ceramic steel panel products have gained widespread popularity in the global premium market, enjoying high reputation in education, office, and construction industries.

Research background

With the acceleration of China's urbanization and continuous upgrades in educational and office space design, demand for high-performance building and decorative materials is rising. Ceramic steel, benefiting from its environmental friendliness, safety, and durability, is increasingly gaining favor among architects and educational institutions. PloyVision intends to further deepen the market positioning of its core product—ceramic steel panels—in China. To achieve this, it urgently requires comprehensive market data and user demand insights to assess market acceptance and competitive dynamics in targeted segments, thereby providing a solid basis for formulating actionable market entry and expansion strategies.

Research scope

In March 2020, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by PloyVision to conduct a specialized market study on the potential for expansion of its ceramic steel panel product in the Chinese market. This project employed a combined approach of macro-level market research and in-depth interviews. The macro-level analysis focused on the overall development trends, policy environment, competitive dynamics, and technical application scenarios within China's building and decoration materials market, enabling the client to gain a holistic understanding of the industry. The in-depth interviews targeted end-user demand groups, including tenants in premium office buildings, elite educational institutions, international schools, and representatives from certain universities. Interview topics covered user preferences, product awareness, procurement processes, perceptions of functional and aesthetic qualities, and acceptance of new material introductions, aiming to uncover actual user needs and decision-making logic.

Expected outcomes

Through this study, PloyVision will gain a comprehensive understanding of the awareness level, functional requirements, and usage preferences of key target customer segments in China regarding ceramic steel panels. It will clearly identify potential market demand volumes and growth opportunities, and identify key competitors and their respective product strengths. The findings will provide data support and strategic direction for PloyVision’s future product localization, marketing strategy development, channel expansion, and customer engagement, enabling the company to more accurately penetrate China’s premium building materials market and enhance its market presence and brand penetration across the Asia-Pacific region.
