Survey on Vocational and Technical Training Needs for Industrial Robotics Enterprises in the Guangdong Delta Region

Company overview

The South China Intelligent Robotics Innovation Institute is a newly established research institution established in accordance with the strategic deployment by the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Government to build an advanced manufacturing industrial belt along the Zhujiang River West Coast. Approved by the Guangdong Provincial Government, the Institute is jointly funded and co-built by the provincial, Foshan municipal, and Shunde district governments. It is dedicated to technological research and development, technology transfer, and talent cultivation in the fields of smart manufacturing and robotics. The Institute focuses on key areas such as industrial robots and intelligent equipment, concentrating on cutting-edge technologies in advanced manufacturing, and building an integrated platform for government, industry, academia, and research collaboration, providing strong technical support and talent guarantees for regional industrial upgrading.

Research background

With the transformation and upgrading of China's manufacturing sector toward intelligence and precision, industrial robots have gradually become a key technological enabler and an essential component of the high-end manufacturing supply chain. However, the field is still in its early stages, particularly in the area of skilled talent training, where a mature and standardized training system remains lacking. As a leading innovation platform in the industry, the South China Intelligent Robotics Innovation Institute urgently needs to conduct a comprehensive survey to understand the current development status and training needs of vocational and technical institutions, in order to guide its own planning and development of training programs.

Research scope

In December 2018, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by the South China Intelligent Robotics Innovation Institute to conduct a specialized survey on training needs in the fields of precision manufacturing and smart manufacturing. The study adopted a combined approach of macro-industry analysis and quantitative questionnaire surveys, analyzing the current development status, trends, and competitive landscape of the precision manufacturing sector. It further investigated key issues related to vocational skills, talent supply and demand, and training models, gaining in-depth insights into the actual training needs and pain points of relevant universities and vocational institutions. The survey covered multiple universities and vocational schools across the Guangdong Delta region, ensuring both the breadth and representativeness of the data.

Expected outcomes

Through this research, a systematic understanding of the current development trends in the precision manufacturing industry and the actual situation regarding smart manufacturing talent development is expected to be achieved. The core training needs of various institutions—including content, methods, frequency, and resource support—will be clearly identified. This will provide the South China Intelligent Robotics Innovation Institute with theoretical basis and decision-making support for designing a scientific training curriculum system, developing diverse training formats, and optimizing teaching resource allocation, thereby enhancing the institute's alignment and professional influence in the field of industry training services.
