BOE - Feasibility Analysis of Entering the Medical Services Market

Company overview
BOE Technology Group Corporation (BOE) is a global leader in semiconductor display technologies, products, and services, with core business areas including TFT-LCD, OLED, flexible displays, sensor technologies, and intelligent system solutions. It is currently the only listed company in China capable of independently developing and mass-producing a full range of semiconductor display products. In recent years, BOE has actively expanded into the field of smart healthcare, advancing a strategic transition from display manufacturing to technology-driven health and wellness services, in alignment with the emerging trend of "technology plus health".
Research background
To extend its strategic vision from core technology output to real-world application and implementation, BOE has established a long-term strategic plan for the development of digital healthcare and health services. Under this context, the company intends to establish new smart healthcare platforms centered on "smart hospitals" in both Beijing Shunyi and Chengdu, Sichuan. These platforms aim to integrate artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, and advanced display technologies to create a model for future healthcare delivery. Prior to project initiation, BOE seeks to conduct in-depth professional research to comprehensively assess the regional medical ecosystems and market potential, ensuring that site selection, construction, and operational decisions are scientifically sound and risk-controlled.
Research scope
In December 2017, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by BOE to conduct an integrated field study on the development of smart hospital projects, covering both Beijing Shunyi and Chengdu, Sichuan. The research scope included: Macro-policy analysis, commercial district and land parcel surveys, competitor analysis, physician resource assessments, and consumer questionnaire surveys.
Expected outcomes
This study will provide BOE with multidimensional data across policy, market, medical resources, and consumer behavior, identifying key differences between the two locations in terms of medical resource distribution, market scale, and project feasibility. The findings will assist BOE in accurately evaluating the implementation conditions and operational potential of smart hospital projects in both Beijing Shunyi and Chengdu. The results will offer comprehensive, quantifiable decision support for site selection, functional positioning, service design, and resource allocation, thereby facilitating the successful implementation and sustainable development of its health and wellness strategy.
