Survey on the Fame of Classic Chinese Foods

Company overview

FLY MEDIA Co., Ltd. is a well-known media planning company headquartered in Japan, with long-standing expertise in organizing and promoting cultural and market activities for Japanese media and enterprises operating in the Chinese market. The company serves a diverse range of clients, including television networks, publishing institutions, and multinational brands, and possesses extensive experience in cross-cultural communication and media operations, serving as a vital bridge connecting Chinese and Japanese cultures and markets.

Research background

In recent years, the global influence of Chinese cuisine has been steadily growing, attracting significant attention from international media and audiences. To enhance the content appeal and viewership of Japanese television food programs, FLY MEDIA plans to produce a special program focusing on regional Chinese snacks. To ensure the authority and audience resonance of the program content, a systematic understanding of the public awareness and recognized rankings of representative dishes within China is urgently needed, enabling data-driven planning of filming locations and content pathways.

Research scope

In January 2021, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by FLY MEDIA to conduct a study on iconic Chinese street foods, including Chongqing's 'Dandan Noodles,' Yangzhou's 'Yangzhou Fried Rice,' Qingdao's 'Fish Skin Jiaozi,' and Chengdu's 'Ma Po Tofu.' Through a combination of questionnaire surveys and in-depth interviews, the research collected consumer perceptions and preferences regarding the most well-known restaurants serving these dishes in their respective places of origin. The study produced a ranking of food fame and gathered multi-dimensional consumer insights on taste, cultural stories, and recommendation scores.

Expected outcomes

The research findings will provide FLY MEDIA's food program with comprehensive and reliable data support, enabling the production team to accurately identify target restaurants and subject profiles for filming, thereby enhancing the program's authority and appeal. Additionally, by presenting authentic consumer perspectives, the program will strengthen its resonance and cultural relatability among Japanese audiences, further promoting the international dissemination and recognition of Chinese regional cuisine.
