Research background
In recent years, issues concerning the intellectual property rights protection of the core element of the "Polo Ralph Lauren" brand—the polo rider graphic trademark—have become increasingly prominent. A number of registered trademarks featuring the polo rider graphic have emerged in the market, covering various product categories such as apparel and luggage, easily causing consumer confusion and undermining the market recognition and legitimate rights of the original brand. In response, Fangda Law Firm intends to conduct a survey to understand consumers' recognition levels of polo rider-style graphic trademarks, providing quantitative support for relevant legal actions.
Research scope
In July 2021, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Fangda Law Firm to conduct a quantitative survey among ordinary consumers across the country. Using random sampling, the study conducted a questionnaire survey with 1,000 consumers. The research included comparative visual samples, presenting different polo rider graphic trademarks in isolation to measure respondents' brand recognition rates, misidentification rates, and awareness levels of related brands. The study was implemented in strict accordance with scientific research standards, ensuring the representativeness and legal reference value of the data results.
Expected outcomes
This survey will provide Fangda Law Firm and its clients with first-hand market data to evaluate the recognition and exclusivity of the polo rider graphic trademark of the "Polo Ralph Lauren" brand in the Chinese market. The research findings will serve as a solid evidentiary basis for subsequent brand protection actions, infringement judgments, and intellectual property legal measures, helping the brand defend its legitimate rights and interests in a complex trademark environment and strengthen its market identification.
