Research on the Pet Ownership Needs of the Elderly Population

Company overview

Ningbo Baijia Shi Pet Food Co., Ltd. was established in 2015 and is a comprehensive enterprise specializing in the R&D, production, and sales of pet food and related products. Guided by the core philosophy of "Caring for Life," Baijia Shi is committed to providing pet owners with high-quality, scientifically balanced pet food and related products. Its product range includes pet dry food, treats, and various pet care items, and has gradually evolved into one of China's emerging pet brand leaders, earning strong consumer trust

Research background

With the continuous growth of the pet economy, the elderly population is emerging as a key force in pet ownership and is increasingly attracting market attention. Baijia Shi aims to understand the consumption behaviors and needs of elderly pet owners in order to identify potential market opportunities in pet food, particularly in dry food, and to further refine its product portfolio and marketing strategies. In January 2022, Baijia Shi commissioned CEIDEA Research to conduct a consumer insight study on dry pet food buyers, using data-driven methods to identify growth opportunities.

Research scope

CEIDEA Research primarily employed quantitative research methods, conducting field surveys in nine cities: Langfang, Shenyang, Ningbo, Xiamen, Changsha, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Guiyang, and Lanzhou. The study collected authentic consumption data from pet-owning households among the elderly population. Through structured questionnaires, the research focused on key dimensions such as brand selection, purchasing channels, price tolerance, and nutritional preference preferences for pet food, while also analyzing demographic characteristics, lifestyle habits, and pet ownership philosophies to build a detailed profile of the elderly pet owner segment and reveal their core consumption behaviors.

Expected outcomes

This study will provide Baijia Shi with a comprehensive profile of the elderly pet owner group and a detailed understanding of their consumption patterns and preferences, identifying their specific preferences and pain points in pet food products. The findings will offer clear direction for product development, brand communication, and market expansion. Additionally, the research data will help Baijia Shi establish a scientific customer understanding and insight system, enhancing the company's agility and precision in responding to market dynamics within the pet consumption sector.
