Leveraging its core technological expertise in electric vehicles and a fully integrated supply chain, Tai Ling has established itself as a highly influential electric vehicle brand in international markets.
Research background
In recent years, with the accelerated urbanization of Southeast Asian countries and growing environmental awareness, interest in electric vehicles has surged in emerging markets such as Vietnam. As one of Tai Ling's key overseas markets, Vietnam's consumer perception, acceptance, and usage behaviors toward electric vehicles have become critical references for the company's strategic planning. However, facing complex consumer demographics and underdeveloped market infrastructure, Tai Ling urgently requires systematic market research to deeply understand the real needs and behavioral patterns of local consumers, thereby reducing market expansion risks and enhancing brand alignment and market penetration.
Research scope
In November 2024, CEIDEA Research conducted a comprehensive consumer study on behalf of Tai Ling Group, targeting the Vietnamese market. The study employed a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative in-depth interviews and quantitative surveys, covering key urban centers including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, and surrounding areas. The research focused on analyzing consumer behavior in areas such as frequency of electric vehicle usage and preferred travel scenarios, multi-vehicle household travel decisions, comparative usage between electric and gasoline vehicles, purchase decision pathways, information sources, and preferred purchasing channels. It also delved into consumer demand structures across performance, price, design, intelligence, safety, and after-sales service. Additionally, the study assessed actual consumer evaluations of electric vehicle quality, driving experience, range, charging convenience, brand image, and after-sales service. It further identified cognitive biases, purchase barriers, and brand/product switching behaviors and their root causes. The research sample included first-time vehicle buyers, existing electric vehicle users, gasoline vehicle users, and multi-vehicle household consumers, with demographic, living environment, and lifestyle data integrated to provide a full-dimensional consumer insight, enabling Tai Ling to more accurately identify and target key consumer segments in the Vietnamese market.
Expected outcomes
This study will provide Tai Ling with multidimensional, data-driven insights to inform its brand strategy, product design, and marketing positioning in the Vietnamese market. By deeply analyzing the usage behaviors and preferences of different consumer groups, Tai Ling will gain a clearer understanding of Vietnamese consumers' authentic needs in performance, price, design, and intelligence. The research will also assist the brand in refining product positioning across various travel scenarios, thereby improving product adoption rates and user satisfaction. Furthermore, by identifying obstacles and drop-off points in the purchase journey, Tai Ling can optimize its sales and after-sales service systems to enhance conversion efficiency. At the brand level, the study will reveal consumer cognitive biases and shifts in loyalty, enabling Tai Ling to implement more targeted communication strategies and achieve rapid market penetration and long-term competitive advantage in Vietnam.
