Headquartered in Shanghai, Wenyu leverages its deep understanding of frontline markets and keen insight into consumer trends, building extensive expertise in emerging consumer brand development, localization strategies for imported products, and premium gift item research. In recent years, as the consumption of premium fruits—particularly imported cherries—has grown significantly in the Chinese market, Wenyu has closely monitored key variables influencing brand awareness and purchase decisions within this category, and is actively advancing the brand-building process for cherries.
Research background
With rising health-conscious consumption and strong demand for festive gift-giving, cherries have evolved from a premium fresh produce category into a more mainstream consumer product. Purchase frequency, brand selection, and usage scenarios have become increasingly diverse. While leading brands such as BoBan (Copefrut/BoBan), Miss O (Frusan), Prize (Prize), and Garces (Garces) have strengthened their market presence through deep channel penetration and refined packaging imagery, brand differentiation and consumer loyalty remain in early stages. To understand the current state of brand recognition, purchasing behaviors, and brand associations among urban consumers, Wenyu Brand Image Strategy (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. launched this 'Special Study on Cherry Brand Recognition.' Through a large-scale quantitative survey, the study aims to systematically reveal consumers' cognitive profiles, purchasing preferences, and decision drivers regarding cherry brands, providing actionable insights for brand strategy optimization.
Research scope
In October 2025, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Wenyu Brand Image Strategy (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. to conduct a specialized study on the topic of 'Cherry Brand Recognition.' The research targeted actual cherry buyers across Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen—four first-tier cities—and employed an online questionnaire approach to collect data, resulting in a total of 1,000 valid responses. The study first screened questions to ensure participants had prior cherry purchasing experience and collected data on purchase frequency, typical purchase volume, and channel distribution over the past year. Subsequently, the research evaluated key dimensions of brand awareness and purchasing behavior, including spontaneously mentioned brands, auxiliary-recognized brands, actual purchase brands, and the most frequently purchased brand. It also conducted a quantitative scoring of eight key brand decision factors, assessing consumer priorities in both personal consumption and gifting contexts. Additionally, a brand performance evaluation matrix was established to assess leading brands—BoBan, Miss O, Garces, and Prize—across dimensions such as 'taste and quality,' 'brand trust,' and 'origin advantages,' to gain deeper insights into positioning differences and consumer mental advantages. Demographic variables including age, gender, city, household structure, and income were also collected to support market segmentation and cross-analysis.
Expected outcomes
This study will produce a comprehensive set of data across multiple dimensions—including brand awareness, purchase channels, usage scenarios, and decision weights—to fully reveal the strength of brand recognition among first-tier urban consumers, the degree of mental differentiation among brands, and the underlying purchase drivers. The research will quantify performance differences across key perception indicators for various brands, identifying current market leaders and emerging growth potential, while also detailing shifts in purchase motivations between personal consumption and gifting contexts. The findings will provide targeted strategic recommendations for brands. The outcomes will support brand optimization of packaging design and messaging, clarify key channel strategies, and establish clear brand positioning frameworks, thereby enhancing consumer consistency in brand associations and loyalty, and accelerating the transition of the cherry category from product-based to brand-based competition.
