Research on Children's Animation Viewing Habits

Company overview

YouYang (Tianjin) Animation and Cultural Media Co., Ltd. (referred to as "YouYang Media") is a cultural enterprise specializing in the development and dissemination of media content for children and families. Guided by the philosophy of "creating and spreading the joy of innocence," the company has built a strong brand presence in the fields of children's entertainment and education through years of experience in media operations, animation content production, and derivative product development.

Research background

With the advancement of mobile internet technology, interactive entertainment products for children have rapidly become widespread, driving continuous growth in market demand. YouYang Media plans to launch its own children's APP, aiming to better align with the real needs of families and children in terms of content and functionality. However, at the early stages of product development, there remains a lack of in-depth understanding of target users' usage habits, content preferences, and interaction experience expectations. Therefore, this user research aims to collect first-hand insights to inform the design of the APP.

Research scope

In May 2015, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by YouYang Media to conduct focus group discussions with target participants in Chengdu. The study involved children and their parents who met the specified criteria. The research explored various aspects of children's interactive entertainment product usage, including usage scenarios, product types, functional preferences, content demands, and usage frequency. It also conducted in-depth analysis of pain points, emotional needs, and usage expectations of parent-child users, and evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of currently dominant market-based APPs.

Expected outcomes

This focus group research provided YouYang Media with authentic and comprehensive user profiles and demand-based insights for the development of its children's APP. Through interactive feedback from both parents and children, the study identified key design directions, including the integration of education and entertainment, intuitive and simple interface operations, and strong content safety features. The final research findings served as essential data support and design inspiration for YouYang Media in the conceptualization of content, functional planning, and user experience optimization of its children's APP.
