Fenni Technology - User Experience Research for Intelligent APP

Company overview
Fenni Technology Co., Ltd., established in March 2011, is a high-tech enterprise specializing in the R&D and manufacturing of heat pump technologies. Its products are widely applied in commercial hot water, heating, air conditioning, and heat pump systems. Leveraging its advantages of technological leadership, stable performance, and energy-efficient, environmentally friendly solutions, Fenni Technology has gradually built a strong reputation and brand influence within the industry. As the market scale expands and the product portfolio diversifies, Fenni Technology continues to increase investment in product intelligence and system integration, aiming to deliver efficient and convenient energy solutions across all user scenarios
Research background
With the growing popularity of smart home concepts and increasing user demands for product operability, Fenni Technology plans to develop a mobile APP that integrates functions across its product lines, enabling users to remotely control devices, monitor energy consumption, perform fault diagnosis, and schedule after-sales services—all in one seamless experience. To ensure that the APP’s functional design, interaction logic, and user experience align closely with market demands, the company has decided to conduct a user behavior and needs study with a third-party professional research institution prior to development. This study aims to comprehensively understand both current and potential customers' acceptance levels, functional expectations, and usage habits regarding the APP, thereby improving R&D efficiency and market fit.
Research scope
In June 2016, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Fenni Technology Co., Ltd. to conduct a targeted study on existing and potential users of its core product lines, including water heaters, heating equipment, and air-source heat pumps. The research primarily focused on: users' satisfaction, usage frequency, and preferred usage scenarios for current device operation; their acceptance of using an APP for device control and information management; the key functional modules most important to users (such as remote control, energy consumption data, automatic alerts, and after-sales service integration); and preferences regarding interface design, functional simplicity, and technological trust. The study combined quantitative questionnaires with small-scale user interviews to ensure both broad coverage and in-depth insights.
Expected outcomes
This research is expected to systematically reveal users' behavioral patterns and potential pain points during device usage, clearly identify core functional requirements and interface preference among target customers for the intelligent control APP, and provide first-hand user-centered data to support product design, interface planning, and interaction logic development. Additionally, the research report will help the company identify differences in functional preferences among various customer segments—such as residential versus commercial users—and propose differentiated operational and promotional strategies. These findings will lay the foundation for building a smart product ecosystem, enhancing overall user experience and brand loyalty
