Sales Outlet Price Monitoring Study

Company overview

FOTILE was founded in 1996 and is a leading enterprise in the high-end built-in kitchen appliance industry in China, consistently committed to the mission of 'bringing happiness to millions of families.' The company specializes in R&D and manufacturing of premium kitchen appliances. The FOTILE brand under the group has established a comprehensive product portfolio spanning nine categories, including range hoods, built-in stoves, steam ovens, convection ovens, and dishwashers. It is dedicated to driving a transformation in Chinese household kitchen lifestyles through a human-centered philosophy of health, environmental sustainability, and technology. FOTILE also has expanded into integrated kitchen solutions and international markets, with operations extending to numerous countries and regions worldwide.

Research background

As FOTILE continues to expand its market presence across China, the distribution network in Yunnan has matured, with over a hundred outlets. However, due to differences in channel management and intensified regional price competition, there exists a potential risk of price violations, such as selling below official suggested retail prices or engaging in cross-region sales and aggressive competitive practices. Such behaviors could damage brand image and harm the interests of other distributors. To standardize pricing practices and ensure stable market operations, the Kunming FOTILE Marketing Center urgently requires third-party monitoring to conduct continuous, objective oversight of pricing activities.

Research scope

In May 2019, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by the Kunming FOTILE Marketing Center to conduct monthly field inspections of over 40 FOTILE-branded outlets across Kunming and surrounding areas using the 'mystery shopper' method. Trained mystery shoppers simulated real customer purchasing behavior, recording actual sales quotes, promotional activities, and promised in-store gifts provided by sales personnel. The study focused on identifying any instances of sales below official suggested retail prices, cross-regional sales, or aggressive competitive practices, and assessed the compliance of outlets in adhering to established pricing policies.

Expected outcomes

This study is expected to comprehensively understand the actual pricing practices across the region, promptly identify existing issues and potential risks in the pricing system, and effectively assist the Kunming FOTILE Marketing Center in standardizing dealer behavior, ensuring the consistency and authority of brand pricing strategies. Additionally, the findings will provide data and management support for future adjustments to market management policies, dealer management optimization, and sales system oversight, thereby promoting the sustainable and healthy development of the regional sales environment.
