Case Details

Company Overview Nova Shanghai Design Center, part of Nova Design, is located in the Shanghai International Automobile City and spans over 5,000 square meters, serving as a key design and R&D hub for Nova in China. The center specializes in developing internationally competitive products for Chinese clients and assists overseas enterprises in leveraging China's manufacturing capabilities, making it a pivotal node in the company's global strategy. With extensive experience in industrial design and deep market insights, Nova possesses strong design capabilities across multiple sectors, including appliances, automotive, and consumer electronics.

Research background

Currently, Nova's Design Center is working in collaboration with a leading domestic appliance manufacturer on an industrial design project for integrated stove appliances. As an innovative product category in the kitchen appliance market, the visual design, functional configuration, and user experience of integrated stoves directly impact consumer purchasing decisions and brand perception. To more precisely identify users' actual usage needs, design preferences, and pain points, introducing user research at the early design phase has become essential. The goal is to gather first-hand data to inform design direction and improve market fit.

Research scope

In June 2020, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Nova's Design Center to conduct a targeted user study for the target audience of integrated stove appliances. The study involved in-depth interviews and usage experience exchanges with qualified household users, primarily focusing on urban middle-class families with limited kitchen space and frequent cooking needs. Interview topics covered users' daily usage habits, awareness of integrated stove functions, existing usage challenges, aesthetic preferences, and factors influencing purchase decisions. The research aimed to identify the alignment and gaps between current integrated stove designs and users' real-world needs.

Expected outcomes

This research will provide Nova's Design Center with comprehensive, first-hand user feedback, enabling precise identification of core needs and key design considerations among the target user group. Based on the research findings, the design team will be better equipped to optimize the functional layout, human-computer interaction, and visual aesthetics of the integrated stove, ensuring the product meets real-world usage scenarios while differentiating itself in the competitive market. Ultimately, the research aims to maximize the commercial value of the design.
