Consumer Research on Portable Air Purifiers

Company overview

Qingdao Baoke Venture Investment Co., Ltd. was established in November 2014. It is a Sino-foreign joint venture co-founded by Qingdao High-Tech Zone Administration, Qingdao High-Tech Venture Investment Co., Ltd., and Israel EXIT CHINA PTE. LTD. The company follows an investment strategy of "technology introduction + industry incubation + market connectivity," aiming to introduce advanced, high-end technologies and projects from abroad into the Chinese market and promote in-depth cooperation between Chinese and foreign enterprises in high-tech fields. Key investment areas include software development, information technology, biopharmaceuticals, environmental protection, agricultural technology, new energy, and optoelectronic chips.

Research background

As urban air pollution continues to intensify, public concern over respiratory health has grown significantly. Portable air purifiers, as personal health devices, have gained increasing popularity among consumers. However, the market's offerings vary widely in terms of technological performance, design aesthetics, and user experience, leading to increasingly intense market competition. To identify promising products and technologies and validate market fit, Qingdao Baoke Venture Investment Co., Ltd. urgently needs to understand the real needs and usage preferences of core city consumers regarding portable air purifiers.

Research scope

In June 2015, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Qingdao Baoke Venture Investment Co., Ltd. to conduct a consumer behavior study on portable air purifiers. The study selected four major and key cities—Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Qingdao—employing a combination of questionnaire surveys and in-depth interviews to comprehensively understand consumer needs and feedback regarding usage scenarios, functional design, portability, battery life, filtration efficiency, brand awareness, purchasing channels, and price tolerance. Survey participants included office workers, students, homemaker women, and sensitive population groups.

Expected outcomes

This study conducted an in-depth analysis from dimensions such as consumer usage habits, product feature requirements, channel preferences, and price sensitivity. It developed a detailed user profile for the target audience, identifying core consumer demands for product design and purchase decision pathways. The findings not only provide critical data support for Baoke Venture's project evaluation and investment decisions but also offer actionable recommendations for subsequent product optimization, market entry, and marketing strategy development for portable air purifier projects.
