Market Demand Research for ICU Monitoring Products

Company overview

Murata China Investment Co., Ltd. (MCI) is the Chinese subsidiary of Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a globally renowned electronics component manufacturer based in Japan. Murata leverages its advanced capabilities in high-performance electronic materials, cutting-edge packaging technologies, and high-density module design to serve a wide range of industries including consumer electronics, automotive electronics, medical devices, and new energy systems. Its products are widely applied in smartphones, smart home appliances, automotive control systems, energy management, and life sciences—making it one of the core players in the global electronics supply chain.

Research background

As medical devices continue to evolve toward greater intelligence and precision, Murata has developed two innovative medical products specifically for use in Intensive Care Units (ICUs): a sensor-based product for continuous core body temperature monitoring, and a supplemental medical device designed to prevent sputum reflux. To ensure these products meet actual clinical needs, enhance physician usability, and provide scientific validation for future product iterations and market entry, Murata urgently requires authentic feedback and usage suggestions from frontline ICU physicians.

Research scope

In June 2019, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by Murata to conduct in-depth qualitative interviews with ICU physicians across key cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Changsha, Zhengzhou, Tianjin, and Chongqing. The study involved 30 experienced medical professionals and frontline ICU doctors with extensive clinical backgrounds. The research covered physicians' key clinical concerns and usage requirements regarding core body temperature monitoring technologies, as well as evaluations of the feasibility, convenience, and patient compatibility of the sputum reflux prevention device. Additionally, the study explored the practicality, improvement suggestions, and hospital procurement processes for both product types in real-world medical settings.

Expected outcomes

This research has gathered comprehensive, first-hand feedback from frontline ICU physicians, systematically identifying the strengths and areas for improvement of the products in clinical applications. The findings will support the optimization of product functionality and user experience, while also providing authoritative guidance for pre-market pricing strategies, channel distribution, and marketing approaches. Through in-depth engagement with clinical experts, Murata has been able to refine its R&D direction with greater precision, strengthen its competitive positioning in the premium healthcare market, and advance its ongoing innovation and expansion in the field of intelligent medical devices.
