Company overview

MTR Rail Transit (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Railways Company Limited, established in March 2004. The company is responsible for investing, constructing, and operating Line 4 of the Shenzhen Metro, holding a 30-year operation right covering the entire line after the second phase of operations commences. Line 4 of the Shenzhen Metro serves as a key transportation artery connecting the northern part of Shenzhen with the Futian Central Business District, serving multiple core commercial and residential areas and serving as a critical commuter route in the city's CBD, carrying extremely high daily passenger volumes.

Research background

With increasing urban population density and rising commuting demands, the service standards for urban rail transit are facing higher expectations. MTR Rail Transit (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. aims to conduct a systematic passenger satisfaction survey to gain in-depth insights into actual passenger feedback regarding the operation and service of Line 4 of the Shenzhen Metro, evaluating performance in key areas such as punctuality, station signage, security measures, and overall travel experience. This will enable continuous optimization of user experience and strengthen its brand image.

Research scope

In December 2020, CEIDEA Research was commissioned by MTR Rail Transit (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. to conduct a passenger satisfaction survey for Line 4 of the Shenzhen Metro. The survey covered multiple peak and regular operating periods at various metro stations, employing an in-station questionnaire approach, collecting over 6,000 passenger feedback responses. The research evaluated multiple dimensions including punctuality, clarity of station signage, staff service attitude, cleanliness of station environments, and security and sense of safety, providing a comprehensive assessment of the overall operational service level of Line 4.

Expected outcomes

The findings of this survey will provide MTR Rail Transit (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. with comprehensive data on passenger satisfaction, identifying both strengths and areas for improvement in service operations, and offering clear direction for service optimization. The results will also serve as a key reference for the next year's operational performance evaluation and service standard upgrades, helping the company achieve tangible progress in enhancing passenger satisfaction and building a premium urban rail transit service brand.
