Research background
Despite the ongoing threat that drug-related issues pose to social stability and public health, Guangdong Province—being both a populous region and a key front-line area for foreign openness—continues to face a complex and severe anti-drug situation. To scientifically evaluate the effectiveness of anti-drug campaigns, identify weaknesses in current outreach efforts, and promptly address gaps, the Anti-Drug Bureau of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department has partnered with external research institutions to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of anti-drug public awareness campaigns across the province. The study aims to gain a clear understanding of the public's level of knowledge on drug-related information, the reach of various dissemination channels, and the perceived overall anti-drug atmosphere in society, thereby improving the precision and impact of anti-drug campaigns.
Research scope
In July 2020, CEIDEA Research was commissioned jointly by Hangzhou Qunyan Tang and the Anti-Drug Bureau of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department to conduct a representative sampling survey across all 21 prefecture-level cities in the province, collecting a total of 15,000 samples. The study employed a combination of questionnaire surveys and stratified regional sampling, with more detailed sampling at the town and street level in key cities such as Dongguan and Zhongshan to ensure data representativeness and coverage. Survey topics included residents' knowledge of drug-related information, frequency of exposure to different anti-drug campaign formats and content, preferences for campaign formats, perceptions of community-level drug prevention efforts, and overall satisfaction with anti-drug work—providing a comprehensive picture of the actual effectiveness of anti-drug campaigns across the region.
Expected outcomes
Through this large-scale survey, the Anti-Drug Bureau of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department will gain a clear understanding of the current status and public feedback on anti-drug campaign implementation. The findings will further refine anti-drug campaign strategies and guide resource allocation. The research results will provide data-driven support for iterative improvements in anti-drug policies, helping to enhance the coverage and effectiveness of anti-drug education. This will contribute to establishing a collaborative, community-wide anti-drug governance model and promote the development of a routine, refined, and systematic approach to anti-drug public awareness campaigns.
