Market Research on Optimization Design of Meilin Service Area

Company overview

Ministry of Transport Planning Research Institute, established in March 1998, is a first-level public institution under the Ministry of Transport, serving as a specialized think tank addressing national development needs and cutting-edge transportation issues. The Institute has undertaken numerous strategic planning consultancy projects at the national and industry levels, and leads high-tech R&D programs and natural science foundation research, possessing substantial academic and practical experience.

Research background

As China's expressway network continues to improve, the functions and service levels of expressway service areas have attracted increasing attention. The Meilin Service Area, located along the Qinghua Expressway in Huadu, Guangzhou, holds significant potential to showcase regional economic and cultural characteristics due to its unique geographical location. To scientifically optimize the layout and functional design of the service area, meeting the real needs of drivers, passengers, and surrounding residents, the Planning Research Institute launched a special market research initiative in September 2023, supported by third-party data to enhance the quality of planning decisions.

Research scope

This research was entrusted to CEIDEA Research, employing a questionnaire-based approach to focus on travelers and community residents around the Meilin Service Area. The research covers users' opinions and suggestions regarding facility needs, functional configurations, information guidance, environmental atmosphere, rest experiences, and cultural feature presentations. Structured questionnaires were used to collect authentic feedback, with statistical and analytical processing of users' usage habits, key satisfaction points, and expectations, providing comprehensive data support for the Planning Research Institute.

Expected outcomes

Through this market research, the Planning Research Institute will obtain a clear user demand and satisfaction profile, identify strengths and bottlenecks in facility provision, functional layout, and cultural expression of the service area, and propose scientifically grounded optimization recommendations. The research findings will be directly integrated into the planning and construction of the Meilin Service Area to enhance user experience, highlight local culture, and serve as a mature reference model for future expressway service area designs, further promoting innovation and optimization within the transportation service system
