Jimei Design - Research on the Needs for the Construction of a Safety Education Exhibition
Company overview
Jimei Design Engineering Co., Guangdong, is affiliated with Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and is one of the earliest professional enterprises in China's art-based higher education institutions to integrate design and construction. The company holds both a Class A specialized design qualification for architectural decoration projects and a Grade 1 professional contracting qualification for architectural decoration and renovation projects. With a long history and strong expertise, Jimei has achieved numerous firsts in mainland China, including the first domestic projects led by local designers in film and advertising, five-star hotels, art museums, and concert halls—all of which were designed by Jimei. Since the new century, Jimei has actively participated in key national engineering design projects, such as the China National Pavilion and Theme Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the Guangzhou Asian Games, and the Shenzhen World University Games, demonstrating its comprehensive capabilities in public cultural and visual system design.
Research background
In accordance with the directives from the Guangzhou Municipal Committee and Municipal Government to enhance public safety literacy, Guangzhou plans to build a first-class national-level safety literacy and emergency self-rescue skill training and experience center. This project aims to improve public knowledge and response capabilities in areas such as production safety, public safety, and emergency management through spatial experiences and interactive learning. As the design firm for this project, Jimei Design needs to accurately understand the real needs and cognitive differences of the public regarding safety education, in order to scientifically guide the content, layout, and information system design of the exhibition center.
Research scope
In January 2019, CEIDEA Research was commissioned jointly by Jimei Design Engineering Co., Guangdong, and the Guangzhou Work Safety Bureau to conduct the 'Survey on the Current State of Public Safety Literacy in Guangzhou.' The study employed offline questionnaire intercepts across all major administrative districts of Guangzhou, covering citizens from diverse occupational backgrounds and age groups. Survey content included the public's level of knowledge on safety, key knowledge gaps, information sources, learning preferences, and actual needs, with a focus on analyzing their safety cognition and behavioral patterns in daily life and work settings. Additionally, the research collected public feedback and suggestions on exhibition function zones, information presentation methods, and interactive design elements, ensuring that the design plan closely aligns with user expectations.
Expected outcomes
This research will provide Jimei Design with systematic, data-driven user requirements for the design and construction of the experience and training center, enabling the company to scientifically plan exhibition content from the perspective of the public. It will enhance the exhibition's overall performance in educational value, practicality, and interactivity, ultimately achieving a comprehensive improvement in public safety awareness and emergency response capabilities, and helping Guangzhou establish a model for public safety education.
